Our Partners
We conduct all of our work in Ukraine with the assistance of our labor and civil society partners. Learn more about them and how you can help using the links below.
Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine (TUESWU)
TUESWU is the primary union of education workers in Ukraine, and they have been a strong partner of the AFT for over a decade. Many of the AFT missions and projects in Ukraine have been conducted with TUESWU's assistance. Since the outbreak of the war have given them $25,000 to help assist their members who have been displaced.
Polish Teachers Union (ZNP)
The Polish Teachers' Union has been an essential partner in providing relief for Ukrainian youth and educators who have been displaced. The AFT has contributed funds to their summer camp program for Ukrainian refugee children in Poland. We have also provided resources for Polish-language classes for displaced Ukrainian educators in Poland.
Education International (EI)
EI is a global education union federation with over 383 individual affiliate unions. The AFT works closely with EI on a number of international projects including Ukrainian relief. In May of 2023 the AFT was a member of an EI delegation to Kyiv that examined the destruction done to the Ukrainian education sector.
Save Ukraine
Save Ukraine is a non-profit based out of Ukraine that specializes in rescuing children who have been abducted by Russian occupiers. They also run a number of community centers that provide food, shelter, health care and education for displaced children. The AFT has raised start-up funds to open a community and has an ongoing pilot project that connects Ukrainian youth to American classrooms.
Ukrainian Children's Action Project (UCAP)
UCAP is an organization that was started by Irwin and Karen Redlener to address the emotional health of Ukrainian children as a result of this war. They specialize in trauma informed education and healthcare. The AFT has worked with UCAP to donate generators to schools in the Lviv region.
