AFT-Save Ukraine Partnership: Hope and Promise for Ukrainian Youth
This pilot project with our partner, Save Ukraine, connects students in AFT classrooms to students in Save Ukraine's community centers. This allows the students to build a cross border community and aims to provide some much-needed relief for Ukrainian children who have been dealing with the detrimental impacts of this war.
Kosciuszko Foundation Summer Camps
In partnership with the Kosciuszko Foundation, the AFT sent eight of our teachers to participate in a summer camp program in the small town of Basznia. These camps were designed to promote a safe and fun environment for children feeling the effects of the war.
AFT members Donate Generators to Ukrainian Schools
Partnering with the Ukrainian Children's Action Project (UCAP), the AFT was able to provide 50 generators to kindergartens in the Lviv region at the request of the Mayor.
"Holidays 2022: Solidarity with Ukraine" Campaign
This project, run by the Polish education union, ZNP, provided much needed relief to Ukrainian children who were impacted by the Russian invasion. These summer camps had both Ukrainian and Polish students in attendance. The AFT provided $68,000 to help cover the costs of the Ukrainian refugees that attended the camps.
ZNP Professional Development Courses
The AFT gifted the ZNP two separate grants for $25,000. One of these was a donation for the Union sponsored summer camps and the second grant was for Polish language courses for Ukrainian teachers who were now in Poland following the start of the war.
